“The city’s name has an unpleasant aftertaste when spoken. You can be confident that these things will all change. According to an official statement, the chief minister declared, “We must honor our heritage and eradicate all vestiges of colonialism from our nation.”

In addition to Akbarpur, several other districts in the state, such as Aligarh, Azamgarh, Shahjahanpur, Ghaziabad, Firozabad, Farrukhabad, and Moradabad, have also had their names changed.

Since taking power in 2017, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has made it his duty to remove all reminders of past oppression.

As a result of this initiative, several state highways, parks, crosswalks, and buildings have been named in honor of the late prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction replaced the name of the famous Mughalsarai railway station, which is currently the fourth busiest intersection in the nation.

In an effort to restore the city’s historical identity, the state government renamed Allahabad to Prayagraj just prior to the 2019 Kumbh Mela.

Saints claim that this historic place was originally called Prayagraj, which the Mughals changed to ‘Allahabad’.

At the same time, the Jhansi railway station was renamed after Rani Lakshmi Bai, and Faizabad was renamed Ayodhya.

It was recently proposed that Firozabad be renamed Chandra Nagar, while the municipal bodies of Aligarh passed a motion calling for the city to be renamed Harigarh.

A desire to rename the district as Mayapuri was made in Mainpuri, where a similar request was also made.

Gulab Devi, the Minister of State for Secondary Education, has insisted that Prithviraj Nagar or Kalki Nagar be used in place of Sambhal, the name of her hometown. Devmani Dwivedi, a former BJP MLA, proposed renaming the Sultanpur district as Kushbhawanpur. Kush, son of Lord Rama, laid the foundation for this city. Brajesh Singh, a BJP MLA from Saharanpur’s Deoband assembly constituency, has also called for the name Deoband to be changed to Devvrind.

Deoband is most known for the Islamic seminary Darul Uloom, while there are rumors that the location was once called Devvrind in Hindu scriptures.
